While at Emerging Cleantech, Mr. Chauny has advised global investors in aggregating solar and wind portfolios globally. In these engagements, he has negotiated term sheets on over 800 MWs of opportunities year, led due diligence efforts, and negotiated definitive agreements on over 400 MWs of contracted assets. Accustomed to working with European, North American and Latin American stakeholders, Mr. Chauny bridges the gap to facilitate successful transactions.
Mr. Chauny began working in energy as a member of the investment team at the Spanish Iberdrola Renewables in its Madrid Headquarters. In this capacity, he focused on the acquisition of renewable energy projects from target search, to valuation, and negotiation of transactions totaling over 3,000 MW throughout Europe (Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Greece, Romania, Turkey, Poland and the United Kingdom). In 2006, as a member of the team tasked with the companies’ entry into the US market, he led the valuation of US wind developers and secured board buy-in on U.S. tax monetization financing structures.
In that same year, Mr. Chauny was the first Iberdrola executive sent to the U.S. playing a key role in the company’s establishment and growth in North America. During his tenure, he worked on the the acquisition of companies with portfolios totaling over eight thousand megawatts in Renewable Energy (Wind) projects. He led project finance, valuation and strategic planning, and closed Iberdrola’s first tax equity deal in early 2007.
Mr. Chauny was recruited by Hudson Clean Energy Partners, LLC (Teaneck, NJ) to help establish its wholly owned portfolio company, Element Power. In his role, he led the preliminary strategic planning for Element Power and the procurement of acquisition opportunities. He was named Director of Finance and Mergers and Acquisitions at Element Power and led the acquisition (opportunity procurement, due diligence, and negotiation) of over 1 GW of assets in North America.
Mr. Chauny has a Bachelors in Business Administration with a Major in Finance from The George Washington University, Washington, DC and a Masters of Science in Finance, Cass Business School (City University), London, United Kingdom.
